My Shack

My Shack in October 2022

Two years further and again a lot has changed. My Yaesu FT-1000mp Mark V is gone and replaced with a Yaesu FTDX-5000. A bit nicer rig that will help me more in the contests I think!

The Sommerkamp FT-277ZD has been put in a box, because I’m doing mostly digital mode communications at the moment and that one is not able to do this.

I also found my old “HAM International UK” CB radio and I have added it to the shack for nostalgic reasons!

I had the possibility to buy a Yaesu FRG-7000 receiver for almost no money so I added that also to the shack. As an antenne I use a 5 meter long wire, which gives me limited receiver capability.

I added a small “Tokyo Hy-power” amplifier for 2M to the shack. It will give me 50 watts more than the 50 watts that comes out of the FT-991. Not a big change but I’m mostly using it for the built-in RX amplifier.

That’s about it I think. I did buy an Elecraft KX3 second hand, but I’m not a big fan and will sell it again.

This is what the shack looks like at the moment:

A lot has changed in the last few years. The magnetic loop antenna is sold, the Ameritron is still there but in a box. It’s not usable now in the new house but I will not sell it!

A 23 meter long end fed 5 band wire antenna has been added as a new antenna. This wire antenna can handle up to 400 watts which is the legal limit for my full license in The Netherlands.

And an FT-991 has been added to the collection of rigs I have. I think I need to sell some stuff! 😉

Next to this I went retro and bought a Sommerkamp FT-277ZD which is like the Yaesu FT-101ZD, just better quality electronics!

This is what the shack looks like now:

Compared to previous photo not much has changed. I bought an old second hand Mac Mini (on the right in the picture) and am using this now as my main computer in the shack.

I also bought a magnetic loop antenna. The little box on the right top of my FT-1000MP has the tuner and the rotor is on the left, on top of the MFJ tuner.

Thats about it!

So much has changed since the last shack update on this page that I will just give a summary of the major changes.

I now have a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V, a Micro Keyer II, a Yaesu FT-857D and of course I still have my Ameritron Linear.

I also added my old President Jackson CB radio to the shack, so I can now and then listen to the CB band using an 11m HAM stick antenna. This is more nostalgia then anything else I think!

Biggest additions to my shack between April 2012 and March 2013 were the blue road sign with my callsign on it, the Heil Pro-Set Elite 6 headset and the Ameritron linear. A good buy I think which gives me a bit more power in the pile-ups. 🙂

I got my “new” (secondhand) Yaesu FT-950! I wanted a base station with more bells and whistles and the FT-950 looked like the right way to go! It will be a replacement of my FT-897 that I was using as a base station.

My handhelds for the 2m and 70cm are not in the picture below but I’m still using them, mostly in the car now. The FT-817 is also my VHF/UHF rig for now.
